ome behaviours cannot be fully explained by simply observing the behaviour that is causing concern. When a behaviour raises questions, becomes difficult to manage or is hard to understand, a behavioural analysis can help to identify and better understand the underlying connections. The focus is on understanding why a behaviour occurs and which factors may be contributing to it. Together, we look at the current situation, the dog’s history, day-to-day life, possible sources of stress, communication between human and dog, and their interactions while living together. Motivation, emotions and possible medical factors are also taken into account. The behavioural analysis includes a detailed history, observation of the dog in different situations and, where possible and appropriate, video recordings that are reviewed after the appointment. This additional analysis often allows for a closer look at behaviour, body language and possible connections that may not always be apparent in the moment. The behavioural analysis takes approximately two hours. Afterwards, I take additional time to professionally review and assess my observations. Depending on the situation, video recordings may also be made and analysed afterwards. The findings and resulting recommendations are then discussed together. The aim is to develop the best possible understanding of the dog’s motivation and emotions. The behavioural analysis generally takes place in a calm and secure environment at the training ground. If it is useful or necessary for the specific issue being assessed, part of the appointment can also take place outside the training ground by individual arrangement. For appointments within Innsbruck, a travel fee of €5 applies. Appointments outside Innsbruck are available by arrangement. For issues where the use of a muzzle is advisable or necessary for safety, this will be arranged individually in advance.
